What a great post! Building community is so important. Two years ago I joined a writing group and moved my newsletter to Substack, and I'm so glad that I did. Both have offered me such valuable opportunities to engage with other writers.

Thank you Steph! I'm so delighted to have Kern write it for Wild Writing. Same - started a writing group and moved my newsletter to Substack. I think it was about 1.5 years ago, but both have enriched my life immeasurably. I often find writers don't know or don't talk to that many writers...

I’m starting to do all of this: go to local book events and support writers I love on Substack. 🤞🏻

I agree, it's so important to support other writers, but it's often really helpful for yourself too. I normally come away inspired. And usually with another book to read!

I think last year I read over 20 books just from Substackers I follow which is great. They are books I’d maybe not have come across so there is always that. 🤩

That's a great way to look at it. I've literally just bought a book recommended by Leyla Khazim on Substack, and on my TBR shelf are several more that I've bought on fellow Substack writers recommendations.
